Lavender Orpingtons are a stunning variety of the classic Orpington breed, admired for their soft lavender-gray plumage, fluffy appearance, and exceptionally gentle temperament. While they share the same calm, friendly personality as Buff Orpingtons, their unique coloring makes them a favorite among backyard chicken keepers. As a dual-purpose breed, they offer a nice balance of dependable egg production, beauty, and companionship.

Origin: England (Lavender color variety developed from the traditional Orpington breed)

Egg Laying Ability: VERY GOOD consistent layers of large brown eggs throughout much of the year.

Broodiness: MODERATE to HIGH many hens become broody and make attentive, nurturing mothers

Meat Production: EXCELLENT a large, well-rounded dual-purpose breed with good table quality

Cold Tolerance: EXCELLENT dense, fluffy feathers provide outstanding insulation during cold weather

Heat Tolerance: FAIR appreciate shade, good airflow, and fresh water during hot summer months

Predator Evasion: FAIR calm personality and heavier body make them less quick to escape predators.

Foraging Ability: GOOD enjoy free ranging and are happy to search for insects, seeds, and greens

Tolerance for Confinement: EXCELLENT adapt well to coops and enclosed runs while remaining calm and content

Temperament: Extremely gentle, friendly, curious, and easy to handle

Aggression Toward Flock Members: VERY LOW peaceful birds that mix well with other breeds

Noise Level: LOW to MODERATE hens are generally quiet, while roosters have a typical crow
